Chisasibi's Solar Energy Workshop: Unveiling the Potential of Solar Energy in Remote Camps

Updated: Feb 28

As we take strides towards sustainability, the Chisasibi community is excited to host the upcoming Solar Energy Training workshop on March 11th and 12th. This event marks a significant advancement in adopting renewable energy sources, particularly beneficial for remote camps where traditional power sources can be unreliable and expensive to setup.

The workshop's agenda is designed to offer comprehensive knowledge on small solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of solar energy's potential on the first day. The second day will jump into the technical aspects, including component selection and system assembly, providing the hands-on experience required for successful solar PV installations in remote settings.

Workshop Agenda: Small Solar PV Systems

Day 1 location: Miichiiwaap Auditorium - Understanding Solar Energy Potential

  • Introduction to solar energy and its benefits

  • Overview of small solar PV system components

  • Guidelines for evaluating energy needs

  • Ideal for remote locations seeking energy independence

Day 2 location: Miichiiwaap Fireplace - Technical Aspects and Hands-on Experience

  • Detailed guidance on component selection for solar PV systems

  • Step-by-step instructions on system assembly

  • Hands-on experience in solar PV installations

  • Essential for remote camps aiming to utilize solar energy

  • Focus on reducing reliance on fuel-based systems for a green energy supply

We are particularly grateful to the First Nation of Quebec and Labrador Sustainable Development Institute for their generous support in making this workshop possible. Their funding for the trainer and travel expenses to Chisasibi underscores the importance of collaboration in achieving our shared goal of sustainable development.

By participating in this workshop, you will be better equipped to implement solar solutions that can lead to significant cost savings, energy autonomy, and a positive environmental impact. We encourage everyone interested in making a tangible difference in their energy consumption and contributing to a greener future to register for this enlightening event. Sign up here and join us in harnessing the power of the sun for a brighter tomorrow.
